Everyone in town knows Angela Ramirez, beloved bartender at Carlee’s Bar and Grill, sometimes foodie, darling of the contemporary cocktail world, and uncrowned monarch of Borrego Springs. Before taking this picture, I asked Angela to show me her shirt, and my readers who are “spiritually” inclined will recognize the familiar Patron icon.
Born just around the corner in Indio, Angela has kept bar at Carlee’s since 2012, through the good years and the bad pandemic. If Borrego Springs were a tall ship with all the residents its crew, we should have an effigy of Angela hewn from oak as our figurehead and know that we could sail through all of the vicissitudes of life’s great ocean with confidence, with her as our inspiration and spiritual guide.
